Assignment 21A – Reading Reflection No. 2

Assignment 21A – Reading Reflection No. 2

  • What was the general theme or argument of the book?
    • The book I chose was Mindset: The New Psychology of Success and the general theme was that everybody is able to succeed by having or developing the right mindset. The book discusses the importance of our mindset in our actions and daily life. Moreover, the author explained where these mindsets come from and how we can work on them.
  • How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in
  • ENT 3003?
    • I believe this book could inspire whoever reads it. This book teaches you valuable lessons
    • that can be used in different situations of your life. In this class, I have learned that being
    • organized and having multitasking skills was really important. At the beginning, I used to
    • stress over the long assignments we had. However, now that I have read this book, I know
    • that my success is only on my hands. It might be stressful; however, with the right mindset
    • , now I understand that this class is a challenge that I need to learn from and not be scared
    • of.
  • If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that
  • exercise involve?
    • I believe I would have the class create a list of the moments where they thought they failed.
    • Then, I would ask them what they felt and how they handled it. Were they optimist about
    • it or did they feel stupid and sad? After having their answers , I would read some out loud
    • and ask the class if they think that failures affect everybody differently. I would have them
    • reflect on how our own mindset can sometimes destroy us or improve us. Moreover, I
    • would explain the differences between the types of mindsets we have and show the
    • consequences of each of them.

  • What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words,
  • what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
    • Biggest “aha” moment of this book was when I realized that I had a fixed mindset during
    • most of my high-school years. I never understood how or why but when I read the book I
    • could relate to the situations described. I almost forgot how I used to be back in high
    • school, how I avoided homework and always made the less effort possible. I can say that
    • I might still have a bit of fixed mindset; however, during these last years I have been
    • constantly introduced to this different world with a different language, where I had to
    • adapt myself and therefore change my mindset. I now see how I grew as a person and
    • how my mindset helped me get where I currently am.

  1. I love the idea of loosening up and being more open to get a new entrepreneurial mindset. I really think that this change in way of thinking and perception will help people grow to more successful people in life. I also think your idea of writing up a situation where we think we failed makes a lot of sense, since this will improve our understanding of the situations we might engage in as entrepreneurs

  2. I read the same book. Fixed mindsets versus growth mindsets. Having a fixed mindset is debilitating as seen in your high-school career. Having an exercise that teaches students about how they think when confronted with failure is an excellent way to teach different mindsets.

  3. I think you did a great job explaining all the details in your pitch. I love the details of the post and how you related it back to ENT3003. Failing can lead to great success, so we cannot be afraid to fail! Great job!

  4. I think this is a great breakdown of the book and a good class exercise. I feel like I would be able too learn a lot from it. Specifically, I would learn from reflecting on my mindset and if it is helping or hurting me. I think this is a great point to make because there are both good and bad habits, each of which can benefit and destroy you.
