Assignment 26A – Celebrating Failure

Assignment 26A – Celebrating Failure

Tell us about a time this past semester that you failed -- whether in this class, or outside of this class. Don't spare any details! It'd be even better if there was something you tried several times this semester, and failed each time.

  • At the beginning of the semester, I discovered that I could use the gym facilities for free. That was when I decided that I wanted to start being healthier. I wanted to start eating healthier and also start doing exercises. I went to one zumba class and then I completely forgot what I promised myself. I was eating fast food and not having a healthy lifestyle. I failed. I tried again to stop consuming dairy products, it was hard and it is still hard. I now drink almond milk, however, I have not completely stopped eating cheese. I reminded myself what I decided at the beginning of the semester and now I started to go to the gym and also attending to fitness classes. It is not easy to get used to it but I will do it for me and for my health.
Tell us what you learned from it :

  • Change is never easy but knowing the change could improve your life is a good incentive. I learned that I need to be constant and work hard to see a change in my lifestyle. I also learned that I need to give my health importance instead of only focusing in studies.

Reflect, in general, on what you think about failure. Failure is hard, isn't it? It's embarrassing, sure, but it also means that we have to change something about ourselves. Talk about how you handle failure (emotionally, behaviorally). Finally, talk about how this class has changed your perspective on failure -- are you more likely to take a risk now than you were just a few months ago?

  • Failure will always be hard but I always remind myself that you can learn something from it. This is not the first time I try to be healthy, and it is indeed embarrassing to tell your friends how you stopped going to the gym or started eating fast food again. That won't happen again, I now have the resources and the only thing stopping me from using them is myself. I usually handle failure really good; however, I cannot deny that I get anxious and really stressed about what I could have done instead of what I did. Embracing failure is part of growing up and I believe this class just reminded me of that. I always knew how to perceive failure but sometimes you need a reminder that you are doing just fine.

  1. Hey Jazmin, I think getting healthier was one of my main goals starting this semester. but I just could not get it going. I think a big issue of mine is stress eating and I feel like if I am not doing anything but studying around exams, I feel like I am not doing enough. I tend to stress about the exam and do nothing but study.

  2. Hey Jazmin,
I think that it is great that you want to try and be health, especially with how hard that can be with being a student. I think that in this instance that it is important to remember that you can always start again and to not beat yourself up to bad. A schedule always helps too, trying to set out specific time for the gym may help you. I would also start with building up to working out more, start small and than work up.

  3. I have had that same struggle for a long time. It is on and off for me. But when I am at my best is when I am on schedule and that involves me having a set workout time. I suggest setting a schedule up and following it as best you can. No ones perfect, but everyone can try.

  4. Hey Jazmin,
I've learned that one of the hardest things to win at is health goals. I really struggle when it comes to diet and health goals. I've read that creating the discipline to work out daily and early in the morning as well as to properly diet is typically only accomplished by the incredibly successfully, so that can put you in a stand alone group.

  5. Shalom Jazmin, when you spoke about fitness it really resonated with me. Making physical changes is one of the most difficult things you can do in your life especially when it takes a lifestyle change to enact real difference. Coming from a person who has lost over 90 lbs, you can do it. It really is not bad after you start and you get into it. Just remember that it's a lifestyle change that will help us with our fitness goals; moreover, as an entrepreneur, we will have to make new lifestyle changes if we want to succeed in business.
