Assignment 27A – Reading Reflection No. 3

Assignment 27A – Reading Reflection No. 3

  • What was the general theme or argument of the book?
The book I read was "Inbound Marketing" and the general theme was that every business needs to know how to successfully manage social media and blogs to promote their business. This book encourages its readers to use a right marketing strategy that would allow to pull customers in instead of just pushing marketing messages out.

  • How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
This book talks about the importance of social media in order to succeed, which reminded me of how we weekly post in this blog to communicate with others.
Like the book described, social media is very useful to understand your consumers and get feedback, which is what we do through blogger in order to get
feedback for our business plan. Moreover, as entrepreneurs We all need to know how to correctly market our business ideas.

  • If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
I would ask the class to come out with a business idea. When they have the idea, I would ask them how they would promote it. After reading some of the class'
promotion ideas, I would choose two ideas and ask which one do they think is more difficult. When they choose one, I would explain how inbound marketing and output
marketing are different and then I would ask them to try to identify which promotion idea they think is inbound or output. Finally, I would explain the importance of
inbound marketing in store and online businesses, highlighting that although inbound marketing is more successful it is also more difficult to approach.

  • What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
My biggest 'aha' moment was when the book made me look at marketing from a consumer perspective, instead of a company one. That was when I realized that I do not want to be
called or emailed about new promotions, instead I want something more personal and creative. This book makes you think that there is a process to reach your potential and that
can be reached by using social media correctly. I also learned that it is important to understand the steps a customer takes to find my company. You get to see the big picture of customers'
satisfactions and motivations and how to work with those.

  1. Hey Jazmin, I think the best thing about this post was the social media aspect. In entrepreneurship, we see how important advertising really is, and in today's world, social media is key. Having a great social media plan can be so successful for your company and can be great in terms of spreading the word around to many people. Great job!

  2. Hey Jazmin,
My reading reflection was also on a book about marketing, but your seem like it was a different from my own reading. I think that it would be interesting to read this one as well and compare them. It seems like it would make sense to look at marketing from a customers perspective, but I think that sometimes we get got up in the making of the business that we forget how to be the customer almost. So it is great that this book seems to help put that back into perspective .

  3. Making customers feel like an individual works extremely well. In the optical I would have to write names on a birthday letter for each patient. Then in the beginning of the month we send them out. Even something as small as this makes you different from other businesses and companies. It gets people to remember you and grow somewhat attached.

  4. Hey Jazmin,
That sounds like a great project to capture the purpose of the book. I think this book is great for helping people to learn how to create a flow of customers. Your marketing is vital to your businesses' success and turning your customers into raving fans that create new customers for you will significantly reduce your marketing costs and improve your overall clientele and purchase points.

  5. Shalom Jazmin, WOW! That's what I have to say after reading this post. Not only did you do a great job writing this post and teaching me a lot, but you also got the same thing out of your book that I got out of mine. And that is to have more respect for the consumer perspective and do a better job of appealing to what people want rather than what you want to produce.
